Ricoh content with the services of GridwiseTech

Ricoh's Corporate Technology Planning Center has subscribed to Grid Computing technology for several years, and began its collaboration with GridwiseTech in early 2006. In the initial stage of its collaboration, GridwiseTech provided us with a technical report that included tactful advice and a short technical tutorial. In the second phase, our Corporate Technology Planning Center started to build a prototype of a system with GridwiseTech.

Using their skillful engineering ability, GridwiseTech closely supported us in building the core parts of the system. In the last part of the second phase, it was remarkable that GridwiseTech's engineers deployed the core part into the prototype hardware with perfect quality and phenomenal speed.

Wolfgang Gentzsch testimonial

ImageDr. Wolfgang Gentzsch is the Head of the German D-Grid Initiative and former Managing Director of MCNC Grid Computing and Networking Services in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA. Prior to joining MCNC, he was senior director of Grid computing for Sun Microsystems, responsible for Suns Grid computing vision, strategy, and technology development.

ImageIn the past three years, we worked with GridwiseTech together on several projects. We built the North Carolina Grid testbed, trained our North Carolina community in grid computing, integrated Sun Grid Engine resource management with the Globus Toolkit, and developed the prototype grid infrastructure for a digital science laboratory grid for schools. In all these projects, it was fun working with the GridwiseTech experts, who were very responsive to our unique and even changing requirements and always delivered the perfect result in time. Therefore, , I can recommend this company to anyone who requires expert and unbiased advice in the integration and development of different grid technologies.Image

GridwiseTech connects Philips Research to 30,000-CPU EGEE Grid

Image GridwiseTech, the vendor independent expert in scalable solutions, succeeded in connecting Philips Research, to the EGEE Grid infrastructure.

GridwiseTech, awarded top innovator in deploying scientific results in industry, helps enterprises to connect external Grid resources in the process of virtualizing their infrastructure.

The EGEE grid interconnected (as of 2006) 30,000 CPUs and some 15 Petabytes of storage, distributed among 195 data centers, mainly in Europe. Built on LCG/gLite Grid middleware, it is said to be the first grid production system deployed worldwide, so far mostly serving researchers.

MCNC: Middleware stack development and integration

Starting from 2003, Microelectronics Center for North Carolina (MCNC), was involved in a multi-million dollar initiative to add a grid computing infrastructure and resources to its existing North Carolina Research and Education Network (NCREN). One of the challenges in creating this infrastructure was to ensure correct interoperability between various grid systems it used such us Sun Grid Engine (GE) and Globus Toolkit (GT). The former was to be used as a platform for the scheduling and optimal execution of multiple tasks within local networks (Distributed Resource Management, DRM system) whereas the latter was to constitute an interface to access remote resources within the Grid environment from any location. These two standards, however, could not intercommunicate.

MCNC commissioned GridwiseTech to develop a GE-GT integration in order to overcome this obstacle. GridwiseTech delivered a solutio, successfully providing the integration of both standards that are among the most widely used grid systems to date.

BP using GridwiseTech's expertise in grid middleware

Image BP, the energy sector giant, has a 4,000-employee campus in Houston, Texas, where some of the leading geoscientists in the world direct their operations throughout the Americas, including the Gulf of Mexico. In the oil&gas industry, compute clusters are crucial for complex seismic research that demands large computing power. Parallel jobs from applications that process seismic data from oilfields are typically submitted and managed by Distributed Resource Management (DRM) middleware, such as Sun Grid Engine, Platform LSF or PBS Pro.

In 2005, BP in Houston contracted GridwiseTech to configure and tune their data center resources, as well as provide recommendations on various practical issues regarding the use of their computational environment.
