On 22 February 2007 GridwiseTech was the guest speaker at the monthly 'IT Technology Pioneers' event, targeted at the representatives of Krakow's IT environment. Our 'Dawn of the Grid computing era' presentation gathered an audience of ca. 200 people and received an amazing response. The meeting was part of the Business Workshop organized by GridwiseTech.
The presentation started with a brief introduction to Grid technologies and several examples of grids in different sectors of the world's industry, followed by a presentation picturing the cooperation between IBM Germany and GridwiseTech. The audience had an opportunity to view a Grid demo, prepared and presented by Platform Computing from Germany. The solution demonstrated the work of the cluster in Toronto, Canada – complex Excel calculations were performed in a matter of seconds, instead of hours. The final part of the meeting presented the challenges that Grid technologies consultants meet in their daily work.  The genuine interest of the audience was reflected in numerous and detailed questions. The participants were interested in our company, our offer and the technical details of building grids. The audience wanted to know how to distinguish the 'real' Grid products from other technologies, mistakenly called 'grids'. Also the novelty and innovativeness of Grid technologies attracts the increasing attention of IT professionals.  The 'IT Technology Pioneers' event, organized by Inicjatywa IT w Krakowie, gathers Krakow's IT environment and is a crucial networking event for the local business. Each month a different IT company is invited to present themselves to IT professionals, decision makers, thought leaders, freelancers, academia leaders and administration. During the last decade Krakow has exploded into the modern IT center of the Central Europe. |
